  1. Separate requirements from preferences
  2. Connect requirements to actual experience
  3. Before and after: a fictional example
  4. Use AI as an editor, not a source of facts

Examples are fictional and do not represent customer results. Use only facts you can support.

Separate requirements from preferences

List responsibilities, required qualifications and preferred qualifications separately. Check location, work authorization and seniority before spending time rewriting.

Connect requirements to actual experience

For each requirement, find a project, responsibility or qualification that supports it. Mark unsupported requirements as gaps. Similar technology is not automatically equivalent experience.

Before and after: a fictional example

Before: Worked on APIs. After: Implemented REST endpoints for an issue-tracking project using Node.js and PostgreSQL, with integration tests for ticket updates. Use the revised statement only if those facts are true. Do not add AWS, Kubernetes or leadership because the posting mentions them.

Use AI as an editor, not a source of facts

Review changes line by line against your experience. Reject unsupported qualifications and invented metrics. Save a version for the role, export it and inspect the document before submitting.

Put the guide into practice

Keep your facts. Review your changes. Prepare the next application.
